The Council of Medicine of the German Democratic republic makes the following statement about acupuncture: The teachings of acupuncture are based on the assumption of special points on the human skin. The points are supposed to be distributed along special invisible directional lines called “meridians.” Furthermore acupuncture points are supposed to correspond during special times of the day with specific organs. A pricking of the points for a limited period of time is supposed to heal various diseases. According to teachings of acupuncture the type of metal used for the needles is equally important as the kind of movement (turning) of the needles, which are also charged with electric current, sometimes with music.
