The Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education (F.A.C.E.) was a nonprofit foundation established in 1982 to “further the approach to straight chiropractic that is defined as correcting vertebral subluxations to enable the innate intelligence of the body to be expressed more fully.”
F.A.C.E. published the “Blue Books” by Joseph B. Strauss, D.C., F.C.S.C.; audio and video tapes by Dr. Strauss; The Pivot Revie, a free quarterly newsletter; and the Journal of Straight Chiropractic. F.A.C.E. said ˆThe Pivot Review was for “chiropractors who desire to be a ‘central person’ in the preservation of the chiropractic principle.” F.A.C.E. also published four pamphlets:
- Chiropractic for Children
- What is the Adjustment?
- Chiropractic for Life
- What Causes Subluxation?
The pamphlets have no publication date, but were available through the F.A.C.E. website as early as 1999. All of the pamphlets said:
Regular chiropractic care is essential for optimum health. A properly functioning nervous system enables the body to reach its full potential in restoring and maintaining health as well as enhancing other areas of life such as job performance, academic excellence and athletic accomplishment.
When a vertebra misaligns to the degree that it interferes with the proper functioin of the nerve system (subluxation), the inborn self-regulating mechanism of the body cannot function as it should. This results in a decrease in the quality of life. Chiropractors correct these subluxations.
Two of the pamphlets asserted that (a) vertebrae can misalign without causing any symptoms, (b) only chiropractors can detect them, and therefore (c) everyone should have periodic chiropractic checkups throughout life. To read the pamphlets, click here.
