From 1999 through 2014, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) maintained a list of Health Education Assistance Loan (HEAL) borrowers who were in default, as required by section 709(c)(1) of the Public Health Service Act. Data were posted to the HEAL Web through July 2014, when the HEAL Program was transferred from the to the U.S. Department of Education. The last school tabulation I have found was for January 2012.
Chiropractic colleges have much higher default rates than other health professional schools. In October 1999, May 2010, and January 2012, more than half the individuals on HRSA’s default list had attended chiropractic college. Curiously, the income of practicing chiropractors has been dropping steadily.
